Warriors picked to finish 7th in Mountain West media poll

LAS VEGAS >> The University of Hawaii was picked to finish seventh in the 10-team Mountain West Conference, according to a media poll released this morning at the league's media preview.

Boise State was picked No. 1.

The Warriors are seventh with 116 points.

"It's a lucky number in Vegas," UH defensive end Paipai Falemalu said. "I'm not surprised where we were picked. We didn't have too good of a season (in 2011). We're going to keep working hard."

Told of the prediction, UH head coach Norm Chow said: "It's better than finishing 10th."

He added: "I don't think too much about it. We have to play the game. If we're pleased with that, we'd let that be. We're going to have to prove ourselves. That's not a big deal."

Falemalu was the lone Warrior named to the 2012 Preseason All-MWC team.

This is a minor league conference. No one cares who is favored. Forget the football entertainment and let the uH get back to educating. That is its mission. Not football.

What a difference a year makes. Last year UH was picked 1st in the WAC and the buzz was about Coach Mac getting another five year contract at few less dollars. Now Coach Chow is in charge and we are picked for 7th. Since Penn St can't compete for the conference championship for four years, how about they come to Hawaii in early December. Sure would be better than Lamar and South Alabama. Time for the athletic department to get going and forget about Stevie Wonder.
