Once again, the cardiac kids of 'Iolani snatched victory from the jaws of defeat.
Max Look returned a bouncing punt 59 yards for a touchdown, and Reece Foy found Tanner Nishioka for an 8-yard touchdown pass with 1:14 left as No. 8 'Iolani rallied for a stunning 16-10 win over Pac-Five Friday night at Aloha Stadium.
The touchdown pass gave the Raiders (4-0) a 14-10 lead. Moments later, Esau Sele's third sack of the game resulted in a safety, pushing 'Iolani's lead to 16-10 with 27 seconds remaining.
Chase Kanekuni then recovered Pac-Five's onside kick to end all hope of an upset.
Pac-Five led 10-0 with less than 4 minutes to play.
The Raiders rallied to beat Konawaena 43-40, then pulled out a 35-34 victory over Waipahu a week later. It looked like they were out of luck this time as Pac-Five rammed the ball down 'Iolani's defense, with Keoni Tom-Millare, who finished with 150 yards on 32 carries before leaving with an injury late in the contest.
Look's runback cut it to 10-7 with 3:04 remaining, but Pac-Five recovered the onside kick.
On fourth-and-inches at the 'Iolani 42-yard line, the 'Pack went for it and lined up in a shotgun instead of the I. The snap zipped through Alvarado's hands and Look recovered at the Pac-Five 33-yard line with 2:38 left. Seven plays later, Foy tossed the go-ahead touchdown pass.
