UH-Temple football game still possible as talks resume

Talks have renewed and there still remains a possibility that the Temple and Hawaii football teams will meet in a game next month.

According to people familiar with the situation, Temple is willing to make considerable concessions to add the game to both teams' 2012 regular-season schedule.

If the game materializes, it would be played on Friday, Dec. 7, at Aloha Stadium.

Temple is scheduled to play 11 regular-season games this year; Hawaii has a 12-game schedule. Under the NCAA's so-called "Hawaii exemption," teams playing in Hawaii are allowed to exceed the limit of 12 regular-season games.

As a season ticket holder I would expect this game to be included with the season tickets we purchased but I don't plan on taking timeoff from work to see this game.

I am not a season ticket holder but used to be. I agree that it should be included for current season ticket holder at NO extra cost. The deserve that much. After all the UH goes and lets the President and the former AD go on spending sprees. Not to mention they hire an Apple give Hinshaw paid leave and let the BOR waste money also. So why not?

It should be included for season holders and should be free or a minimum price to the general public. This is an oppoertunity to get people in the stands to enjoy the experience.

It's not as painful as seeing your comments pop up on every story, flip-flopping as you go. Whatever happened to "we support Coach Chow and the team because we care?" That's what you said after UH blew out Lamar. Now you're back on the "UH is for academics, not entertainment" bandwagon.

I assume the game will be a money maker for UH. If not, it's another way for Coach Chow to torture the fans.

For Temple it is a win-win opportunity. Flay Hawaii and lose, they consider the trip Hawaii a bowl. Win and they become bowl eligible, they win again. For Hawaii, it is like a bowl game. Lots of national attention. Good for the team and players. I will go to the game if scheduled. For season ticket holders, I guess you guys get one for free. Because of this, TV money will be impoortant. Something acting AD Freitas should be able to handle.

This game if it happens would most certainly be free to season ticket holders. Can you emagine the backlash if UH asked the season ticket holders to pay more?

I don't think that UH cares about any backlash. Look at their recent track record: flush $200k down the toilet (Wondergate); spend more hiring lawyers/consultants to defend them and come up with a procedure/plan to prevent it again; spend big bucks for a sabbatical and to hire a replacement for the person sent on sabbatical; created position for the person who oversaw the department which sent the $200k into the black hole; on-going $5k per month "housing allowance" in spite of a perfectly good and recently renovated College Hill mansion/accomodation; not to mention paying buku bucks for the current UH president with a spotty/questionable prior history (oh, and that guaranteed tenured position even if terminated a.k.a. "golden parachute"). Besides, UH REALLY needs the money.

Meeting of the minds game! Each school can discuss who got the shorter end of the stick regarding Herman Frazier! Hate to say it but UH always gets the short end of the stick. UH is like a magnet or open sore....always attracting the "DUDS!"

oops --- according to wikipedia --- In 1981, Frazier attempted a comeback. He drew over 10 rounds with hulking Floyd "Jumbo" Cummings in Chicago, Illinois. It was a bruising battle with mixed reviews. He then retired for good.

This is a simple win for Hawaii. Here's the plan. We tell Temple that the game is scheduled for Saturday December 8th telling them that December 7th is a holiday for Hawaii and everyone will meet at the Arizona Memorial wearing only shorts and tank tops to commemorate the attack. But we actually will show up at the scheduled game on Friday December 7th while Temple will be at Pearl Harbor and forfeit the game.
