Obama, Maroney 'not impressed' photo spreads fast

Even McKayla Maroney was impressed.

A photo of the Olympic gold medalist gymnast and President Barack Obama doing her now-famous "McKayla Maroney is not impressed" face went viral Saturday after the White House posted it on Twitter. The two took the picture Thursday when Maroney and her Fierce Five teammates visited the White House.

"He was the one who brought it up," Maroney told The Associated Press. "We were about to leave and he said, 'I want to talk to you one second about the face.' He said, 'I pretty much do that face at least once a day.'"

Maroney was photographed making the half scowl with her nose scrunched up while she was on the medals podium after winning silver on vault at the London Olympics. It spawned dozens of "McKayla Maroney is not impressed" memes — including one showing a photoshopped Maroney in the White House Situation Room on the night Osama Bin Laden was killed.

The "face" has become Maroney's trademark. But it's one thing for fans to ask her about it, quite another when the president does.

"I, like, freaked out," Maroney said. "He said, 'Let's do it together.' We took a picture and now it's everywhere."

The entire U.S. Olympic team visited the White House earlier this fall, but the Fierce Five missed it because they're doing a 40-city nationwide tour. But the show, which ends Sunday in New York, was in Washington on Thursday night, so Maroney, Gabby Douglas, Aly Raisman, Kyla Ross and Jordyn Wieber got their own private visit.

The Fierce Five had talked to Obama in London, where they became just the second U.S. women's team to win the Olympic title, and first since 1996. But it was neat to meet him in person, Maroney said.

"He's the coolest person I ever met," she said — which is saying something, considering the Fierce Five have hobnobbed with a Who's Who of celebrities since London. "He's got the hardest job in the entire world."

Maroney had hinted on Twitter that she had done "the face" at the White House, saying, "Did I just do the Not Impressed face with the President." But she didn't know when — or even if — the White House was going to release the photo.

Her father saw it first and sent Maroney a text message. It wasn't long before pretty much everyone was passing it around.

"It's really funny," she said. "Because it's like everywhere."

Now all the bloggers will attempt to criticize this photo. Can't Americans be proud of this accomplishment by our President.

Sure. Uh, gee....what are those accomplishments? Increasing national debt, higher unemployment, US Ambassador and soldiers killed in Benghazi, Libya-gate, lying to the United Nations and US citizens about what he knew and when he knew it (will the truth ever come out?), an abysmal economy, a divided country, and his desire to raise taxes in spite of every intelligent economist telling him not to do so. To be fair, he actually has accomplished one thing this week that is actually positive. HE HASN'T BLAMED GEORGE BUSH FOR ALL HIS PROBLEMS IN AT LEAST A WEEK. WHOA! THAT is an accomplishment worth realizing by this sad political hack that is simply taking up space in the White House for four more years.

No, I think he's referring to the fact that the President didn't blink when the picture was taken. HATE when that happens.

Obama has a great intuitive understanding of how to "join" with people and be human. He is a human president with such a great heart. Hope the country gets behind him so we can move forward. Four years of working together beats four years of stumbling along to make stupid.

Wow...can you be more out of touch with reality. He has divided the US population by his divisive political tactics. Using the argument of "the haves need to give up more for the have-nots" and his socialists view of "spreading the wealth" can hardly be seen as someone who knows how to join people. When you write stuff like that, you are telling thousands of SA readers that you really have no idea about what is going on in this country today. It's NOT about whether you like Obama or not. It's about the reality that this country (and congress) are so divided that nothing positive is being done to get people back to work. As long as Obama continues to push his brand of "fairness" and equality onto people who genuinely don't agree with his brand of what is right/wrong/fair...then nothing will change. Clinton started the same way. By his second term, he changed his tactics. The US enjoyed economic growth back then because he modified his political style. NOT Obama. He hasn't learned anything from history. WE are doomed to repeat it.

Obama is one of the worst presidents in recent history - I hope you enjoy the ride over the next four years when his in action finally catches up to him and the rest of us...He has divided the nation and created a country of "entitlements" and big government...

At this point, I welcome it. I want the people to GET what they asked for. All of it. I want them to get O'bamacare so they can GET their layoffs and reduced hours. I want them to have the rich/corportations pay more taxes so all can GET to pay more for everthing. People don't seem to "get" that, if your landlord's real estate taxes go up, so does one's rent. All of these "demands" are nothing more than "getting" the lower/middle class to ultimately pay more.......indirectly. But, right now, they're (the 47%) busy pointing anc chanting at others to foot the bill. I want to see the day when these people finally realize this and "get" that there are consequences for their decisions. Gonna be kinda funny when that light goes off. Wish I could hear the "heyyyyyyy" when it goes off in thier head. The very next day, the healing can begin.
