LOS ANGELES >> Southern California has fired baseball coach Frank Cruz for violating NCAA rules regarding limits on practice time and organized team activities.

Trojans athletic director Pat Haden announced Wednesday that Cruz has been dismissed and that the school has self-imposed a reduction in the number of practice hours for the baseball team this season and next.

USC has alerted the NCAA and Pac-12 of the infraction and the university-imposed actions.

Cruz was 48-63 in two seasons with the Trojans.

Associate head coach Dan Hubbs, a former Trojans pitcher in his second season as a coach with USC, has been promoted to head coach.

Looks like USC wanted Coach Cruz out from the get go! Haden must have not liked this guy even though he hired him as interim coach for then fired Chad Krueter. All schools abuse the 20 hr weekly baseball related time rule. Rule states that teams must limit their practices to 4 hours or less and not more then 20 hours per week during the season. Off season it's 8 hours per week. Son's school has had practices lasting 5-6 hrs daily. Bet some disgruntled parent turned the coach in to Haden because of his son's diminished playing time! Little League mentality of parents!
