LOS ANGELES >> Southern California wide receiver Marqise Lee missed the Trojans' first practice on Saturday, a day after he left practice early with an apparent right shoulder injury.

USC would not disclose the nature of Lee's injury, and the Trojans were scheduled to practice again later Saturday.

The All-American appeared to get hurt while attempting to catch a long pass from Cody Kessler in coverage during Friday's work outs. He stayed down on the field before USC's medical staff escorted him away.

Kessler said Lee told his teammates he would be "fine" before he left the field.

Lee had 118 receptions for 1,721 yards and 14 touchdowns last year as a sophomore, winning the Biletnikoff Award as the nation's top receiver. He also was the Pac-12's offensive player of the year.

USC opens its season against the University of Hawaii on Aug. 29 at Aloha Stadium.

He'll be ready for the Hawaii game. All I can say is that Hawaii cannot allow Marqise to score a TD on the first play of the game like last year. Tackle the guy at the line of scrimmage and take a 15-yard penalty. Hit em real hard. Ring his bell. Gotta do that for last year. Then we can play the game.

I was at the USC game last year sitting next to some boosters and they had the best things to say about this young man. All positive. His brothers were in jail ( one was murdered) mom and dad not around. He was taken in by a Hapa Asian family (not sure what nationality, last name was not Asian) and his life literally turned around. Nothing but praise for this young man, deciding on his own not to go into the foster system.

All...He killed UH's ( and my) spirit with his quick-step move on the first-down play of our last home game against them for a TD. Bruddahs...UH is my team, but please don't chase SC, attack them with CONFIDENCE and don't' let 'em get a lead that we just try to overcome. BTW, I've lived in LA for 26 years (not necessarily by choice), but from Manoa. PLEASE try to make the upset --- I have Charles White nightmares.
