Hawaii's steadiness during a week full of upsets in women's volleyball was rewarded with a jump in the AVCA Division I Coaches Top 25 poll released today.

The Rainbow Wahine (8-1) moved from No. 10 up to No. 7.

Penn State, with 45 of the 60 first-place votes, jumped two spots to No. 1. San Diego (7-1), the only team team to beat Hawaii this season, received 13 votes in shooting up seven spots to No. 2.

Washington (6-0), with the remaining two votes, went from No. 6 to No. 3 while Florida (6-1), despite losing to Penn State Sunday, was up a spot to No. 4.

Former No. 1 USC, with a loss to San Diego, meant a drop to No. 5. Preseason No. 1 Texas (5-2), defeated by the Rainbow Wahine in the season opener, slid four spots to No. 6.

Rounding out the Top 10 were Stanford (5-2), Minnesota (6-1) and Michigan (7-1).

Hawaii makes its first road trip of season, traveling to Wichita, Kansas, for the Shocker Classic. The Wahine open with South Dakota Thursday, followed by No. 23 Creighton Friday and host Wichita State Saturday.

Texas #1. Although according to the article, there are two number 2 teams. San Diego making our loss (to them) not as bad.

Texas is #6. They were the pre-season number #1, but obviously, after losses to UH and San Diego, they fell.

San Diego loss to texas in 5 sets. I thought UH should be above Texas since they beat them . At least Uh's one loss wasn't a fluke... San Diego is the real deal!

The only poll that matters is the one after the NCAA Championship game and we all know that we want the following scenario: Hawaii No.1, and no laugh as they had done it four times before albeit all within an eight year span of 1979 to 1987. It helps for the Wahine to have lost only to the number two team, although it is surprising that an unranked preseason team goes all the way up to Number Two. The Wahine had better sweep the tournament games on the road this week, if they want to host the first and second rounds, along with winning The Big West, with an undefeated conference record. The lone loss to San Diego is looking more and more impressive, although a loss is never desirable. Consider this, that if UH defeated San Diego, it may well be ranked within the top four now. Enough words? So okay over and out as Sports is my primary interest, although many do not comment on Sports and like to focus on the negatives in life such as today's tragic shootings. One more comment: what is Dave Reardon doing voting Oregon number one? I hope u like these comments NotNasti.
