Treadwell, Akron turn back Oregon St. 83-71

By Associated Press

Demetrius Treadwell scored 16 of his 24 points in the first half in front of President Barack Obama and the first family and Akron beat Oregon State 83-71 on Sunday in the first round of the Diamond Head Classic.

Oregon State coach Craig Robinson is first lady Michelle Obama's brother. The Beavers took their first loss with Obama in attendance after winning four previous contests he took in, including a win at Maryland last month.

Nyles Evans added 17 points -- including five 3-pointers -- to help the Zips (6-2) extend their winning streak to six games. They have won 28 of their last 33 games dating to last season.

Akron built a 10-0 lead and led 16-2. Oregon State closed out the first half on a 15-9 run to pull to 35-34.
