Rolovich joins Nevada staff

By Ferd Lewis

LAST UPDATED: 10:24 a.m. HST, Feb 08, 2012

Former University of Hawaii offensive coordinator Nick Rolovich has been named the offensive coordinator at rival Nevada, the Wolf Pack announced today.

"I am pleased to have Nick join our staff. I've had the chance to watch him grow as a player, quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator," Nevada coach Chris Ault said in a release on the school's website.

"He is a young gun who coached and coordinated the best passing offense in the country," Ault said." It was clear to me and my defensive staff this past year he is not afraid of change as he introduced the Pistol formation to the Hawaii offense. And they didn't miss a beat."

Rolovich wasn't retained when Norm Chow replaced Greg McMackin as UH's head coach last month.

Nevada said Rolovich will serve as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach as the Wolf Pack moves into the Mountain West Conference with Hawaii and Fresno State.

He will coach Cody Fajardo, the WAC Freshman of the Year.

In the release Rolovich said, ""I am very excited to be part of a program that I am very familiar with and for which I have a lot of respect. It feels great to be at a school with a history of high offensive production and putting points on the scoreboard. I'm here to learn, teach and win. This is a great opportunity for me to learn from a guy with so much knowledge like Coach Ault and then to hopefully combine that with some things I've done in the past and continue to win here."

Rolovich was a quarterback for UH  in 2000-'01 and spent the last four season as an assistant coach with the Warriors.

You certainly was an exciting quarterback for UH. I think you're the guy who finally beat BYU. Wild!

Well, we had actually beaten BYU a few years earlier with Garret Gabriel. But Rolo took away BYU's undefeated season and their chance at a national title (although the BCS would have prevented that anyway). And that was SWEET!

Second most eletric moment at Aloha Stadium! I'm sure the stadium maintenance manger was shaking in his shoes that night wondering if the rivets were being stressed beyond their limits.

Congratulations to Rolo. I did not think he would have any problem finding a coaching job. He is definitely an up and coming coach.

I guess Rich Miano is not wanted. Well, everybody gets exposed for who they really are eventually.

I think Miano mentioned he wouldn't leave Hawaii. The guy has a lot of things going on besides coaching (speed & quickness, owns residential property, etc.). He'll be ok. Sounds like you have experience in being exposed in your own life. Just an educated guess.

Daddyboy: Do you ever have anything good to say - I hope your brain isn't as small as the mean uneducated comments you make. Sounds like a fair weather fan to me and we don't need your kind. Congratulations to Rolo - we remember you in Wailupe as well as on and around the team and good luck to Rich however you want to spend your time.

Best of luck to Rolovich. Solid program with Ault at the helm. Let's hope when they play us, there hasn't been improvement in clock management and play calling in the red zone. Nice, deserved opportunity for Rolo, so let's also hope he rolls with it.

You wont see coach mack get any offers, since he was a BAD head coach and has enough money from UH to retire. Good for rolo

You must be related to daddyboy - another fair weather fan - I guess you can only remember Mac's last season, and if so, your memory is misguided, how many wounded players do you think we had this year and only one win from another bowl. Find another team to root for - we don't need your kind - aloha

Agreed, Ault is a coach that will give him guidance unlike another coach who was formally employed by UH and will remain nameless since get plenty sensitive people on here. Did I mention it's Chow Time?
