Cal State Fullerton beats Hawaii 1-0 in 10 innings

Tanner Pinkston singled up the middle with two outs in the bottom of the 10th inning to score Jared Deacon with the only run of the game as Cal State Fullerton snapped a six-game losing streak with a 1-0 victory over Hawaii on Friday night at Goodwin Field in Fullerton, Calif.

Thomas Eshelman (6-1) pitched all 10 innings for the Titans (19-17, 4-6 Big West), allowing six hits and no walks with six strikeouts.

Matt Cooper pitched nine innings for Hawaii (15-23, 3-10), allowing four hits and two walks with a career-high 11 strikeouts.

Juliene Jones took the loss for the ‘Bows, allowing an unearned run in the 10th inning after Austin Wobrock booted a potential double play ball that would have ended the inning.

Adam Hurley had two of Hawaii’s six hits and Stephen Ventimilia and Kaeo Aliviado each singled with one out in the ninth to put the go-ahead run at third. Eshelman fell behind 3-0 to Jordan Richartz before striking him out and then got Marc Flores to fly out to right.

Hawaii has lost 10 of 11.

Game 2 of the series is Saturday at 2 p.m.
