Chow fires 2 assistant coaches

University of Hawaii head football coach Norm Chow announced that defensive coordinator Thom Kaumeyer and linebacker coach Tony Tuioti will not be retained for the 2014 football season.
Both coaches were on one-year contracts and were notified this morning in one-on-one meetings.
Kaumeyer who joined UH in January 2012 after serving as an assistant coach with the Jacksonville Jaguars, was UH’s highest-paid assistant, earning an estimated $250,000 annually.
He had come under fire after UH’s defense allowed more than 100 points in its final two games of 2013. The Rainbow Warriors ended this season with a 1-11 record.
Tuioti was a defensive tackle for the Warriors through the 1999 season. He returned to UH as a recruiting coordinator under former head coach Greg McMackin in 2008. Two years later, he was named defensive line coach.
He was the only assistant coach to be retained by Chow after McMackin was forced to retire in 2011.
Chow made Tuioti linebacker coach in 2012.
Chow has three years left on a 5-year contract that pays a base salary of $550,000 annually.
