Hawaii was ranked No. 17 in Monday's AVCA Coaches Top 25 preseason volleyball poll, one place higher than the Rainbow Wahine's ranking at the end of last season. It came as no surprise to coach Dave Shoji, who lost eight players — including four starters — from last season's 25-5 squad.

Heavy rain, strong wind and the threat of power outages will not prevent the University of Hawaii football team from practicing Friday. "We'll find a place to practice," head coach Norm Chow said. "If we have to go inside, we'll go inside. We have to do something."
