Scott Squier struck out nine in his complete-game victory.

Former University of Hawaii left-hander Scott Squier will not return for his senior season after signing with the Miami Marlins on Friday.

Squier, who was selected by the Marlins in the 16th round of the 2014 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft earlier this month, will receive a signing bonus of $80,000. He landed in Miami early Friday morning and passed all of his physicals before working out at the team’s home park.

He said he will fly to New York on Sunday and is hopeful he will make his professional debut with the Batavia Muckdogs in the New York-Penn League next week.

In three years at UH, Squier went 8-15 with a 3.47 ERA and 182 strikeouts in 207 1/3 innings. In his final game at Les Murakami Stadium, he threw a nine-inning complete game, allowing one run on seven hits with three walks and a career-high tying nine strikeouts in a win over UC Riverside.

He was the first Rainbow Warrior selected in the draft since outfielder Breland Almadova was drafted in the 37th round by the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2012.
