Hawaii beats UC Santa Barbara to win first Big West series

Conner George hit a two-run double to break an eighth-inning tie and Hawaii went on to beat UC Santa Barbara 6-4 on Saturday night to win its first Big West Conference series.

George extended his hitting streak to eight games with a ball hit off the glove of Tyler Kuresa at first, allowing Kaeo Aliviado and Marc Flores to score.

Jon Flinn (1-2) pitched the final 1 1/3 innings to earn the win in front of a Les Murakami Stadium crowd of 2,559.

Marc Flores went 3-for-3 with a double and a career-high three runs and Adam Hurley hit the second home run of the season for the Rainbows (7-17, 2-1).

Matt Cooper had his scoreless innings streak end at 17 and allowed four runs on five hits with two walks and eight strikeouts in seven innings.

Peter Maris hit a three-run homer for the Gauchos (13-12, 1-2).

The two teams will play one final game that won’t count toward conference play on Sunday at 1:05 p.m.
