Hawaii evens baseball series at Long Beach State

Marc Flores went 3-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI and Stephen Ventimilia hit a two-run single to lead Hawaii to a 5-2 victory over Long Beach State on Saturday at Blair Field in Long Beach, Calif.

Corey MacDonald picked uo his team-leading sixth win for the Rainbows (12-32, 7-13 Big West), who evened the series and are 3-3 on their current road trip.

MacDonald (6-5) struck out a career-high eight in six innings, allowing one run on six hits.

Lawrence Chew allowed one run over the final three innings to earn his second save.

Flores extended his hitting streak to seven games.

Jake Stassi (4-3) allowed four runs on five hits in 5 1/3 innings to take the loss for the Dirtbags (23-25, 10-10).

Matt Cooper (2-6, 3.45 ERA) will start for Hawaii in the series finale on Sunday at 10 a.m. Hawaii time.
