Moore captures Beachley Classic

Hawaii's Carissa Moore, 18, won the Commonwealth Bank Beachley Classic yesterday at Dee Why Point in Sydney Australia today.

Moore defeated former world champion Sofia Mulanovich 15.60 to 14.60 in the final for her second win of the year.

Moore won $40,000 in the richest event ever on the Association of Surfing Professionals Women's World Tour, according to the ASP.

"I'm really, really happy. I'm just super excited I was able to come out on top," Moore said.

Fournier hired as Wahine assistant

Hawaii women's soccer coach Michele Nagamine hired Marc Fournier to be an assistant coach for the Rainbow Wahine.

Fournier, 30, was previously a graduate assistant with the Hawaii Pacific men's soccer team for two years. That position included overseeing fundraising, travel and recruiting for the Sea Warriors. He has coached on the collegiate, high school and club levels in Hawaii and played for Hawaii-Hilo in 2006 and '07.

"Marc adds a new dimension to our coaching staff. He has a good understanding of the local club and high school scene and has a network of contacts that reaches across the United States and Europe," said Nagamine, who added that Fournier will be focused on training the goalkeepers.
