Galdiano to play U.S. Women's Open
Pearl City's Mariel Galdiano will play in the U.S. Women's Open golf tournament July 7-10 at The Broadmoor in Colorado Springs, Colo.
Galdiano made it into the tournament in yesterday's sectional qualifier at Kauai's Poipu Bay Golf Course by shooting a two-round total of 152, one stroke ahead of Honolulu's Alice Kim, who is the first alternate.
Galdiano, a Maryknoll School seventh-grader, followed her first-round 78 with a 2-over 74.
Lihue's Kelli Oride finished third with a 154.
VA Golden Age Games on tap
The 25th VA National Golden Age Games, featuring U.S. military veterans ages 55 and over, begins its six-day schedule with Thursday's 7 p.m. opening ceremony at Kuroda Field at Fort DeRussy.
Nearly 1,000 vets, including 100 from Hawaii, are scheduled to compete in golf, air riflery, swimming, cycling, track and field, and other sports through May 31. The closing ceremonies are May 31 at 7 p.m. at the Hilton Hawaiian Village Tapa Tower Ballroom.
