Jonathan Paleka's 27-yard field goal with 9 seconds left lifted Kapaa over Waimea 17-14 for the Kauai Interscholastic Federation championship on Monday afternoon at Vidinha Stadium.

The KIF title is Kapaa's first since 1989.

Paleka's winning kick was set up by a Keane Agoot interception and return to the Warriors' 49-yard line with 4:50 left.

Kapaa (7-3, 5-2 KIF) advances to the First Hawaiian Bank/HHSAA State Football Championships and will host Pearl City in a Division II game on Saturday at Vidinha Stadium. Waimea finished the season 6-3 (4-3).
