Kuany Kuany had 19 points and 12 rebounds, joining Chaminade’s 1,000-point club in the Silverswords men’s basketball 74-42 rout of Viterbo (Wis.) on Thursday at McCabe Gym.
Kuany, a junior from Melbourne, Australia, became the 15th player in school history to score 1,000 career points.
Kiran Shastri also had 19 points for the Silverswords (5-6), who have won four consecutive games.
Erik Engelstad had 17 points for the V-Hawks (5-10).
BYU-Hawaii women routed by Penn
Natallia Cravens scored 11 points but it was not enough as the Brigham Young-Hawaii women’s basketball team fell to Penn 73-41 on Thursday at the Cannon Activities Center.
Michelle Nwokedi had game-highs of 19 points and 17 rebounds, and Sydney Stipanovich added 14 points for the Quakers (8-2).
The Seasiders fell to 4-4.
Kanaka Ikaika season opens Sunday
The Kanaka Ikaika Racing Association season kicks off Sunday with short- and long-course events in eight divisions.
The 8-mile long course is from Makai Pier, around Rabbit, Mokulua and Popia islands to Kailua Beach Park. The 5-mile short course is from Waimanalo Beach Park to Kailua Beach.
Registration is available online for $30 through today and for $40 at race-day check-in from 7 to 9 a.m., at Makai Pier. Divisions are OC-6, OC-3, OC-2, OC-1, surfski, stand-up and prone paddleboard, and V-1. There is a $720 purse for V-1 competitors, the first event of the Maui Jim Waterman’s Series.

UH women’s volleyball banquet Jan. 17
The Hawaii women’s volleyball team will hold its annual banquet on Sunday, Jan. 17, at the Ala Moana Hotel’s Hibiscus Ballroom.
Registration will be at 5:30 p.m. with a dinner buffet at 6 p.m. followed by the program.
The seventh-ranked Rainbow Wahine (29-2) advanced to the NCAA regional finals in Des Moines, Iowa, losing to second-seeded Minnesota in four sets. It was the final match for seniors Tai Manu-Olevao and Olivia Magill.
Tickets are $55 for Rainbow Wahine Booster Club members and $60 for the general public. A Booster Club-sponsored table is $550; for the general public the table will be $600 and for a corporate sponsor table the cost is $650. The cost to sponsor an individual player is $60.
The reservation deadline and full payment is due Jan. 8. Late registration at $65 per person is Jan. 11-15.

Holding period starts for Da Hui Shootout
Thirty of the North Shore’s top surfers are scheduled to compete at the 20th Da Hui Shootout in Memory of Duke Kahanamoku.
The holding period for the event starts Monday with competition in shortboard, longboard, stand-up paddleboard and bodysurfing. Among the surfers entered are Jamie O’Brien, Mason Ho and Bruce Irons.
Keali‘i Mamala returns to defend his title in the SUP Invitational, a field that includes four-time world champion Kai Lenny, Mo Freitas, Zane Schweitzer and Kainoa McGee. Bonga Perkins is the defending longboard champion.

Special Marathon fee for Hawaii residents
Hawaii residents can sign up for the 2016 Honolulu Marathon on Dec. 11 at a reduced rate of $32 through Jan. 15
From Jan. 16-31, the fee for all U.S. and Canadian residents is $64.
Added to the marathon week is the inaugural Kalakaua Merrie Mile, a one-mile race down Kalakaua Avenue on Dec. 10. Entries are limited for Hawaii residents at $28.
