EL SEGUNDO, Calif. >> The Lakers said Monday they have hired Kurt Rambis and Johnny Davis as assistants for coach Mike D’Antoni.

Rambis starred for the Lakers during the “Showtime” era and has been with the team off and on, either in the front office or on the bench, for the past two decades. He served as an assistant coach from 1994-99, 2001-04 and from 2005-09, helping to guide the team to two NBA titles. He took over as head coach during the 1998-99 season and went 24-13.

Rambis was head coach at Minnesota from 2009-11 before serving as a TV analyst.

Davis is a former head coach in Orlando and Philadelphia who spent the past two seasons as an assistant coach for the Toronto Raptors.
