Maui’s Cassy Isagawa defeated Lisa Kang, 3 and 1, to capture the Hawaii State Women’s Match Play Championship this morning at Oahu Country Club.
Isagawa, a sophomore at the University of Oregon, had three birdies on the front nine and was 4 up after eight holes. Kang, a junior at Mid-Pacific Institute, rallied with birdies at the ninth and 10th, but could not cut her deficit further. The 16-year old had five birdies and four bogeys in the match.
Isagawa won the state high school and Junior PGA championships in 2010. She was also medalist at the Girls Junior America’s Cup that year, leading Hawaii to a victory in the international tournament. That event will be played on Maui next week.
The Baldwin graduate never trailed in the four matches of her first Women’s Match Play tournament. Her win gives Oregon a sweep of this year’s amateur match-play titles, with OU graduate Matt Ma winning the Manoa Cup last month.
