Jason Hopkins, who coached Cochise College in Arizona the past year, has been named head coach of the Mid-Pacific boys basketball program.

Born in Honolulu, Hopkins grew up in Edmonds, Wash., and attended Madrona, a K-8 school where current MPI President Joe Rice was principal at the time.

Hopkins played professionally in the U.S. minor leagues and in China. He helped Cochise win a Region One National Junior College Championship.

"We are excited to have Jason as our new boys head coach" said Athletic Director Jo Ito. "I am confident that we have found the right person to fill Coach (Nate) Hu’s shoes. Jason’s wide-ranging basketball experience coupled with his passion for the sport will have a great impact on our program."
