No. 6 Hawaii sweeps Long Beach State in volleyball

Senior All-American Emily Hartong put down 14 kills to lead No. 6 Hawaii to its 12th straight victory Friday night, sweeping Long Beach State 25-11, 25-21, 25-16 in a Big West volleyball match in Long Beach Calif.

Freshman hitter Nikki Taylor added 11 kills and sophomore hitter Tai Manu-Olevao added 10 for the Rainbow Wahine (14-1, 3-0) at the Walter Pyramid. Hartong picked up her seventh double-double of the season when adding 11 digs against the 49ers (8-8, 1-2) in the 89-minute win.

Hawaii out-blocked The Beach 11-8 with junior middle Kalei Adolpho in on six. The Wahine also won the dig battle 33-29, led by senior libero Ali Longo’s match-high 12 digs.

Junior middle Chisom Okpala and senior hitter Delainey Aigner-Swesy led the 49ers with nine kills each, and junior libero Taylor Jackson finished with 10 digs. 

Hawaii travels to UC Irvine Saturday. The Wahine hold a 29-0 advantage over the Anteaters.
