No. 24 Arizona blows out Hawaii

    University of Hawaii’s Josh Rojas anticipated the ball as University of Arizona’s Jared Oliva slid toward second base in the fourth inning of Friday’s game. Oliva was called safe on the play.

Zach Gibbons had five hits and drove in two runs and JJ Matijevic doubled, homered and scored four times for No. 24 Arizona in an 11-2 drubbing of Hawaii tonight at Les Murakami Stadium.

JC Cloney (6-3) allowed four hits over six shutout innings for Arizona (36-20), which handed Hawaii starter Kyle Von Ruden his worst outing of the season.

Von Ruden (7-3) allowed a career-high six runs and a season-high 10 hits in 5 1/3 innings to take the loss for the Rainbow Warriors (23-28), who are 1-19 in their last 20 games against the Pac-12.

Matt LoCoco went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI for UH, which finished with seven hits.

Hawaii freshman Ethan Lopez went 0-for-3 with a walk and a run scored to end a 16-game hitting streak.

The series continues Saturday night at 6:35.
