UH to hold rally for conference champion hoops teams

University of Hawaii mens basketball player Aaron Valdes stole the ball from Cal Golden Bear player Jaylen Brown on Friday in the first round of the NCAA Tournament in Spokane, Wash.
The University of Hawaii announced a rally for its Big West champion men’s and women’s basketball teams to be held on Monday, which will be followed by a proclamation ceremony by Gov. David Ige at the State Capitol.
UH’s 12:30 p.m. event will be at the UH-Manoa Campus Center courtyard and feature the teams, a pep band and cheerleaders. Coaches Eran Ganot and Laura Beeman will speak, along with athletic director David Matlin and chancellor Robert Bley-Vroman.
The teams will then head to the Governor’s Ceremonial Room on the fifth floor of the Capitol building for a 3 p.m. reception.
UH is coming off one of its finest seasons in men’s hoops, a record 28-6 campaign that saw the Rainbow Warriors notch the program’s first NCAA Tournament victory last week, over fourth-seeded California in Spokane, Wash. It was the first NCAA appearance since 2002. The ‘Bows saw their season come to an end with a 73-60 loss to No. 5 Maryland in the round of 32 on Sunday.
Beeman guided the Rainbow Wahine (21-11) back to the NCAAs for the first time since 1998. The Wahine fell to UCLA in the first round of their tournament, 66-50.
The two teams won their respective Big West tournament titles on the same day (March 12) at the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif.

I will be at the rally for my College of Education. I take the mission of the UH seriously. It does not include professional entertainment.
When is the Ciollege of Ecucation holding a rally? And you’re going to be a teacher? God help our keiki.
Thank god you are not going to be there.
Yet the Men’s team is still unranked and got no votes while Cal is still ranked in the top 25. UH’s BPI at 67, which isn’t that hot.
Should be called the BS ranking for the Big 5.
Congrats to Gonzaga for getting as far as they went as well. Way to show them NCAA voters that they got their heads stuck up in them Big 5 clouds.
