No. 4 Punahou girls hold off No. 10 Mid-Pacific

Junior forward Samantha Alakai scored 12 points, including two 3-pointers, as No. 4 Punahou defeated 10th-ranked Mid-Pacific 39-33 on Saturday at the Mid-Pacific gym.

The Owls (1-1) led 19-17 at halftime with solid free-throw shooting, sinking 12 of 16, but a fourth-quarter Punahou rally denied any chance of an MPI upset.

Freshman Tyra Moe added 10 points for the visiting Buffanblu (1-1).

Kiki Robertson and Pua Kanekoa shared game-high honors with 14 points for Mid-Pacific.
