Galdeira movesgame outdoors
It’s not enough sometimes for Lia Galdeira to be the state’s best girls basketball player.
Recently, she made her debut in track and field. To no surprise, the Konawaena junior dominated. She helped the small school win the team title in a Big Island Interscholastic Federation meet, winning the 100-meter dash and long jump. She also took second in the 100 hurdles and was tied for third in the high jump.
Punahou rises nationally
Hawaii’s top-ranked boys volleyball team is zooming higher in the ESPN Rise Fab 50.
Punahou jumped four spots to No. 5 in the latest Fab 50. Kamehameha, which had been fourth, slipped to No. 8. Other local teams still in the national rankings are
No. 18 ‘Iolani, No. 29 Maryknoll and No. 33 Hawaii Baptist. Seabury Hall remains one of the teams listed “on the bubble.”
Radford hires Lau
Radford chose Nelson Lau to fill its opening for a boys basketball coach.
Lau, who graduated from McKinley, has coached JV basketball and football for the school and was a varsity assistant for the past five years.
