Next week, the inaugural LPGA Lotte Championship debuts as Hawaii’s newest golf tour event, but the designation won’t last long. Pacific Links Hawaii will announce Monday that it is bringing a full-field Champions Tour event to Oahu the second week in September.
The Champions Tour starts its season in January with the Mitsubishi Electric Championship at Hualalai, which brings together winners from the previous two years. A new three-year contract was signed in October, taking the tournament through 2015.
The new tournament is expected to be played at Kapolei this year and next, then move to Makaha West in 2014. Pacific Links owns both courses and Greg Norman is now renovating Makaha. He will be at Monday’s press conference.
The Champions Tour does not currently have any tournaments scheduled in September.
