Hawaii padded its lead by three shots Wednesday in the second round of the 35th annual Girls’ Junior America’s Cup, being played this year at Wailea Gold on Maui.
The home team takes a 10-stroke lead into this morning’s final round after shooting 2-under-par 214 for the second straight day.
Moanalua senior Eimi Koga (70—140), the 2010 state high school champion, shares the individual lead with Southern California’s Elisabeth Bernabe, whose 5-under 67 is a tournament low. All four Hawaii girls are in the top 11.
Bernabe helped Southern California (210—438) move into second Wednesday. Mexico (219—440) is next.
Punahou freshman Mariel Galdiano (74—244) fell into a tie for fifth and ‘Iolani sophomore Rose Huang (71—145) is ninth. Waiakea senior Ciera Min (73—147) has a share of 11th.
Kapolei’s Alexandra Kaui, who now lives in Las Vegas and is playing for Southern Nevada, is tied for third at 69—142.
Hawaii boys down to No. 8
Hawaii dropped to eighth on Wednesday’s second day of the 40th annual Junior America’s Cup, at BanBury Golf Club in Eagle, Idaho.
The boys team shot 219 and is tied with Washington at 434. Hawaii is led by Skye Inakoshi, who moved up to 11th individually with a 2-under-par 68 — second-best round of the day. At 142, he is nine behind the leaders.
Hawaii’s Eric Le (76—147) is 27th, Andrew Paisley (75—148) 33rd and PJ Samiere (78—149) 37th.
Northern California shot 4-under 206 to take over first place at 416. There are 68 players and 17 teams from Hawaii, the West Coast, Mexico and Canada in the Cup.
