Brigham Young senior Katie Manuma, a 2010 Campbell alumna, was named the West Coast Conference’s softball player of the week on Monday.
BYU finished 2-3 in the Easton Desert Classic last weekend, with Manuma carrying the load both at the plate and on the mound.
In the opener against Seattle University, Manuma went 4-for-5 with three doubles, a home run and seven RBIs while also pitching two innings to earn the victory.
She went 3-for-4 with a bunt single and a stolen base against nationally ranked Minnesota and finished the tournament hitting .470 with three doubles, a homer, eight RBIs, six runs and two walks.
Manuma was 2-0 on the mound, finishing off a 5-4 win over Portland State with two-thirds of a shutout inning to set up BYU’s comeback in the bottom of the seventh.
It’s the second time in Manuma’s career she has won the conference’s player of the week award.
