Arizona junior setter Penina Snuka led the Wildcats to their first win in 11 tries against a top-15 team while setting a school record Sunday.
The 2013 Kahuku alumna recorded 18 digs in a five-set win over No. 11 UCLA, becoming Arizona’s all-time leader in digs by a setter with 1,160.
Snuka, who is seventh among all players at Arizona in digs, broke the record of 1,146 that had lasted 14 years.
She also tied a career high with 59 assists to pick up her Pac-12-leading 19th double-double as Arizona won the fifth set 15-10 after jumping out to a 2-0 lead.
Snuka added five block assists and three kills and teammate Kalei Mau (Kaiser ’13) recorded her ninth double-double of the season with 19 kills and 19 digs for the Wildcats (18-12, 8-10)
UCLA senior Rachel Inouye (Punahou ’12) had 21 digs for the Bruins (22-6, 13-5).
Grugier-Hill earns second first-team nod
Eastern Illinois linebacker Kamu Grugier-Hill was named to the All-Ohio Valley Conference first team for the second consecutive season on Tuesday.
Despite missing the final two games, Grugier-Hill was third on the Panthers with 62 tackles and added 141⁄2 tackles for loss, 51⁄2 sacks and one interception.
Grugier-Hill was named the OVC defensive player of the week after an Oct. 24 win against Tennessee Tech.
EIU finished second in the conference after beating Eastern Kentucky 21-7 last Saturday and earned an at-large berth to the FCS playoffs. The Panthers will play at Northern Iowa on Saturday.

» Dawnyelle Awa, Konawaena ’12: The Washington State senior guard scored a career-high 16 points on 6-for-11 shooting and added five steals, two assists and two rebounds in a 62-52 win over Hawaii on Sunday to win the Bank of Hawaii Rainbow Wahine Classic. Awa had nine points, four assists, four rebounds and three steals in a 70-57 win over Nevada on Friday and made the all-tournament team.
» Alex Masaquel, ‘Iolani ’13: The William & Mary (Va.) junior tied a career high with 18 points and added nine rebounds, three assists and a steal in a 62-61 win over Loyola (Md.) on Monday.
» Kylie Maeda, ‘Iolani ’12: The Brigham Young senior guard was 3-for-5 from the field for seven points, seven assists, two steals and a rebound in an 81-69 win over Utah State on Tuesday.

» Pierce Murphy, Island School ’11: The Colorado senior placed third in the men’s 10K at the NCAA championships on Saturday with a time of 29:37.0. Murphy earned All-America honors for the third straight season and his finish was the best by a Colorado runner since 2003. Colorado couldn’t defend its team title and placed second with 91 points.
» Ian McQuate, Waiakea ’14: The Nova Southeastern (Fla.) sophomore placed 223rd at Saturday’s NCAA Division II championships with a time of 33:14.4 in the men’s 10K. The Sharks placed 31st in the team standings.
WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY
» Mary Eccles, Leilehua ’14: The MIT sophomore finished 60th at the NCAA Division III championships with a time of 22:02.5 in the women’s 6K. The Beavers finished third in the team standings.
» Keili Dorn, Kealakehe ’15: The Vanguard (Calif.) freshman was her team’s lone runner at the NAIA championships and placed 83rd with a time of 18:56.1 in the women’s 5K.

» Tessie Estrella, Maili Bible ’12: The Bob Jones University (S.C.) senior was named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America and National Christian College Athletic Association All-America teams on Nov. 18. Estrella, a team captain, anchored a Bruins defense that shut out 11 teams and didn’t allow a goal in the regional playoffs or national tournament. Bob Jones University won the NCAA Division II national title.

» Beth Tsuha, Hilo ’13: The Grinnell (Iowa) College junior claimed individual wins in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:09.63), 200 breaststroke (2:35.33) and 400 individual medley (4:51.75) while swimming a leg on the winning 200 freestyle relay team in a dual-meet win over Loras College on Saturday.
» Summer Harrison, Mid-Pacific ’14: The San Diego State sophomore won the B final while setting a school record in the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:58.01 at the Art Adamson Invitational on Saturday.
» Lena Hayakawa, Mid-Pacific ’15: The Tulane freshman set a school record in the 200 breaststroke prelims with a time of 2:17.92 and finished eighth in the finals with a time of 2:18.52 at the Phil Hansel Invitational on Saturday.

» Markayisha Masani, University ’15: The Jackson State freshman had a match-high 15 digs and two aces in a four-set win over Alabama State to win the SWAC championship on Sunday. The Tigers clinched a berth in the NCAA Division I tournament.
