Maryknoll’s Allysha-Mae Mateo had the steadiest round at the HHSAA/David Ishii Girls Golf State Championships at the Waikoloa Kings’ Course on Monday.
After shooting even par (36-36—72), Mateo is tied with two others for the lead.
Punahou’s Mariel Galdiano, the two-time reigning ILH champ who is going for an unprecedented third state title in a row, also has a share of the lead going into Tuesday’s final round. She went 34-38.
Mililani’s Mari Nishiura opened with a 39 on the front nine, but had a blistering 3-under 33 on the back to work her way to the top of the leaderboard.
Eight golfers are within four strokes, including ‘Iolani’s Rose Huang and OIA champion Malia Nam of Kaiser, who are one shot back.
Punahou holds the team lead at 4-over 220, eight strokes ahead of ‘Iolani.
