L.J. Brewster and Quintin Torres-Costa combined on a four-hit shutout and Stephen Ventimilia singled and scored the only run in the first inning of Hawaii’s 1-0 win over CSUN on Friday night at Les Murakami Stadium.
Brewster (5-3) allowed three hits and walked only one with five strikeouts over seven innings to snap a four-game losing streak for Hawaii (13-13, 4-6 Big West).
Torres-Costa picked up his second save throwing the final two innings,
In his last 13 outings, Torres-Costa has given up five hits in 13 shutout innings with four walks and 20 strikeouts.
Right-hander Calvin Copping (4-4) pitched a complete-game two-hitter for the Matadors (22-14, 2-8), striking out four with five walks.
Ventimilia led off the first inning with a single and scored on a wild pitch with the bases loaded after Copping walked two.
Hawaii’s only other hit was a leadoff single in the seventh inning by Eric Ramirez.
