DOT: Expect freeway traffic delays on Sunday

LAST UPDATED: 12:48 p.m. HST, Apr 05, 2013

Oahu drivers planning to use the H-1 Freeway this Sunday through early Monday morning could face repair-related traffic delays, state transportation officials warn.

There will be multiple lane closures in the Ewa-bound H-1 Freeway between the Pearl City/Waimalu off-ramp and the Waipahu off-ramp for viaduct repairs starting 9 a.m. Sunday through 5 a.m. Monday, according to the state Department of Transportation.

Two Koko Head-bound freeway lanes from the Kamehameha Highway overpass to the H-1 and H-2 merge will also be closed 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday.

Construction Workers have lost pride in their jobs. How long does it take to perform repair? If Lexus took more than the prescribed time allotted for repair, their customers would scream. How long has that delay been happening near Pearl City? omg.

I voted Republican this last time around, a complete switch from my "theory" of the past, that that was what was happening, including being "quiet and effective". True that Republicans sometimes deregulate too much that disaster happens, however, the trade off is the debt situation we are currently mired in. I do not think anyone would invest in the USA, going forward. Then again, how many companies become successful as Apple, Microsoft, Intel, Google, Cisco, Oracle, etc. Not many, so if one wants to succeed, one selects those entities that project out to be successful. That someone did not see the Housing Crisis of 2007 points to how much those in DC have their heads in the sand.

I don't think it has anything to do with lazy construction workers. Overestimating the allotted time is easier than asking for more time on the job you underestimated. Blame the estimator, if you must. Or blame the equipment or road resurfacing compound.

Well okay not lazy. How many workers stand around, watching others doing work, that needs to be done over and over, and i point out the pot holes.

Everything the DOT (Department Of Traffic) does causes delays. Ever wait at a red light for 3-5 minutes with no cars around? The DOT needs more training classes on traffic management from their mainland counterparts.

jtamura, DOT is Dept of Transportation. You singling out Traffic Department? Are the 200 traffic cameras useful to you? Do you think that 1,000,000 motor vehicles on a small island has anything to do with massive traffic delays? You think?

RetiredWorking - Really? You think our Traffic Department is on the cutting edge of traffic management? No way. We still have intersections controlled by timers, the exact reason you get stuck at a light when no other car is in sight. Remember, Los Angeles developed computer apps to control intersection lights, ensuring maximum efficiency. Say "Computer Controlled App" to our DOT and they look like deer in the headlights. They have no idea what this is. Traffic cameras only show you the traffic, do nothing to fix it. Oh, same DOT that in the paper admitted many of their freeway information signs are the wrong ones. You know the signs, the ones saying "OPEN" when the H3 is totally blocked by a traffic accident, traffic cameras show it. No way to tell the drivers. Face it, out dysfunctional DOT is our problem, not our solution.

Well, they've added an extra turn lane years ago. And they've modified the far right lane. Bottom line is there are too many cars on the road. America (and Hawaiians) love their vehicles. They are also too impatient to carpool, because they can't wait for their neighbor to get off from work. They don't want to pick up or drop their potential carpooling buddies off, because they don't live close enough for their convenience. Drivers don't want to or can't catch bus, because they need to pick kids up from school and take them to activities. More carpooling, less cars on the road, less traffic. Yes, I carpool with my wife, and she HATES it, lol. I also ride by bicycle 6 miles to work part of the year. I laugh as I pass cars in gridlocked traffic. I don't let them know I'm laughing, or they'll run me over.
