Police are looking for the driver who knocked down a utility pole on Kalakaua Avenue early Thursday morning, closing off a major artery leading into Waikiki for nearly 12 hours.

Kalakaua Avenue was reopened just after 1 p.m. after Hawaiian Telcom crews completed repairs.

The street had been closed in both directions between Kapiolani Boulevard and Makaloa Street around 2:30 a.m. Thursday.

No phone customers were affected by the fallen pole because none of the cables on the utility pole were severed, a Hawaiian Telcom spokeswoman said.
