A car trying to drive around a garbage truck hit a Hawaiian Telcom pole on Kamehameha Highway in Hauula Friday morning, a Hawaiian Telcom spokeswoman said.

The pole fell and police closed one lane of Kamehameha Highway near Punaluu Beach Park after the accident at about 7:37 a.m.

Repairs to the pole are expected to last until about 4 p.m.

Police are contra-flowing traffic around the area as crews replace the pole and reattach the cables.

There was no immediate word on injuries.

Telephone service was not affected, said Ann Nishida-Fry, a Hawaiian Telcom spokeswoman.
