Man in hospital for mental evaluation after Farrington Highway incident

Police took a man to the hospital for a mental evaluation this morning following reports of a possible gunman near Keawaula Beach, also known as Yokohama Bay.

No weapon was found and no arrests were made, police said.

Westbound traffic on Farrington Highway near Makua Cave past Waianae was closed just after 7 a.m. as police responded to the incident.

Police did not immediately say if the highway was reopened.

    Ummmm….HUNTERS, maybe? The mountains in that area is a well-known hunting spot.

    The police closed the road because “maybe” someone had a gun? Why do they keep doing that? If there’s a minor fender bender, they even close the road for hours. I don’t get it. If they did that on the mainland, the police chief and mayor would be out of a job.

      Uh, they closed the road to protect people like you and me and everyone else from potential harm. Roads are not closed for “a minor fender bender.” The necessity to perform a thorough investigation in cases involving fatalities and critical injuries is in part dictated by the extremely high stakes that can derive from both criminal and civil actions following these events. These policies are exactly in line with mainland jurisdictions of similar size.
