Police investigate the scene of a pedestrian accident today at Kapiolani Boulevard and Kamakee Street.

Police said a 22-year-old Honolulu man was not in a marked crosswalk when he was struck by a car and critically injured Tuesday morning in the Ala Moana area.

The man was apparently trying to cross Kapiolani Boulevard in the makai direction near Kamakee Street at 11:45 a.m. Tuesday when he was struck by a light blue MINI Cooper, traveling in the Ewa direction.

The driver, a 45-year-old Honolulu man, was not hurt.

Paramedics took the pedestrian to the hospital in critical condition, Emergency Medical Services reported.

Police said he suffered numerous head and internal injuries.

Several lanes were closed until about 2 p.m. as traffic investigators examined the scene of the crash.

The car’s windshield, roof and hood were damaged.

Police said speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors in this crash.
