Portions of North King Street in Chinatown will be closed tonight and Friday night to allow film crews with the Titan production company to film “Kong: Skull Island,” which has been shooting on Oahu since mid-October.
The city will close part of North King Street between River and Maunakea streets. Titan crews will be at Kekaulike Mall, in the North King Street and Kekaulike Mall intersection, and in neighboring Chinatown businesses, according to the city.
The closures and filming began Wednesday night
Here is the North King Street closure schedule:
» Tonight: One makai lane will be closed at 6 p.m. and two lanes will be closed at 8 p.m. At 10 p.m., all lanes will be closed until 5:30 a.m. Friday.
A full closure is required tonight to address safety concerns and to allow the production company to place equipment and actors safely on the street, according to the city. During this time motorists will be detoured to Pauahi Street and Nimitz highway.
» Friday: The only lane closed will be the mauka parking lane, from 6:30 p.m. until 4 a.m. Saturday, to allow for cleanup.
» Kekaulike Street will be closed both nights from 4 p.m. until 6 a.m. the next day.
Bus service tonight in the makai lane of North King Street will be detoured away from the filming area onto Hotel Street from 8 p.m. until 5 a.m. the next day. The bus stop at the corner of River Street and N. King Street will be relocated near the Maunakea Street and King Street intersection from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. both nights. The detoured buses return to King Street at Maunakea Street throughout the closure time. Bus service on King Street after Maunakea Street will be unaffected.
This the final week Titan is shooting in Hawaii, according to city film officials, who said it the production will travel next to Vietnam. This is the biggest project to shoot in Hawaii this year.

I hope none of the actors or film crew gets killed or injured in that dangerous town area. Especially Kong.
Hawaii needs more big budget movies every year to sustain a viable film industry. So far behind Georgia, Florida and California.
