Kamaaina, keiki get free cruises

MAALAEA, MAUI » The Pacific Whale Foundation is offering free cruises to Hawaii residents June 5 in honor of World Oceans Day.

The hourlong cruises depart from Maalaea Harbor at 1, 1:30, 2:30 and 3 p.m. The cruise includes narration about Maui's ocean environment by certified marine naturalists as well as the chance to see sea turtles and other wildlife.

Guests will be asked to show a Hawaii driver's license. Members of the Pacific Whale Foundation also are eligible. All children age 12 and under are free, even if they are not members or residents.

Adults who are not Hawaii residents or foundation members can purchase tickets for $10.

Reservations are required and can be made by calling 249-8811, ext. 1.

In addition, the foundation is offering Hawaii residents a 35 percent discount on "eco-adventure" cruises and 20 percent off a second ticket.

This special applies to all Pacific Whale Foundation Eco-Adventures through June 15.

To take advantage of the kamaaina special, Hawaii residents will need to present a valid Hawaii ID. The special is also available for foundation members.

Guests can choose from the Molokini-Lanai Snorkel and Wild Dolphin Eco-Adventure, Lanai Wild Side Eco-Adventure and the Molokini Wild Side Eco-Adventure.

Art Center to hold sale of pottery

Volcano » The third annual Volcano Pottery Sale is set for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 11 and 12 at the Volcano Art Center's Niaulani Campus in Volcano Village.

The sale will feature the work of potters who live and work on Hawaii island, including Ron Hanatani, Emily Herb, Birgitta Frazier, Clayton Amemiya, Jamie Stokes, Chiu Leong and others.
