Area’s latest venue plan would put stadium at UNLV

By Anthony Curtis

POSTED:

Majestic Realty, owner of the Silverton, has proposed an $800 million to $900 million stadium and events center called UNLV Now that would be built adjacent to the University of Nevada-Las Vegas campus.

The complex would include a 60,000-seat stadium along with up to 3,000 student housing units and 400,000 square feet of retail space. The stadium and events center will feature the world’s longest indoor video screen and six “supersuites” that will accommodate up to 300 guests and sell for more than $1 million per year each.

It’s the latest of several arena proposals, none of which has been able to get traction. The project must be approved by the university before other details, including funding plans, are divulged.

>> Bellagio display: The new display at Bellagio’s Conservatory and Botanical Garden celebrates the Chinese Year of the Snake. The exhibit features a gilded cobra, a giant money tree and a pond with live koi and a floating Chinese fishing vessel. Live musical performances are presented from the vessel between 5 and 6 p.m., and gardening experts speak about the foliage on display from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. daily. The exhibit runs through March 3 and is free to view 24/7.

>> Kokomo’s closed: Kokomo’s steak and seafood restaurant has closed at the Mirage. Tom Colicchio’s Heritage Steak will take its place this summer.

>> Strat show: “Pin Up,” starring 2011 Playmate of the Year Claire Sinclair, will open at the Stratosphere Feb. 25. The show will feature classic song-and-dance numbers from the 1940s, ’50s and ’60s, with a live horn section and some magic mixed in. Tickets start at $49.99.

Question: What’s the name of the strip club that’s about to open a topless pool?

Answer: Sapphire Gentlemen’s Club will debut its new pool March 19. But surprise, it won’t be topless. Pasties will be required at the Sapphire Day Club, which will have a DJ and attempt to tap into the mainstream summertime pool scene.

I think theyre talking about a football stadium. Because their current stadium is a dump. I think most Rebel fans like the history & nostalgia of the Thomas & Mack.

It will never be built. The funding plan calls for the casino's to pay the vast majority of it. They aren't going to do that unless a slot machine gets installed in front of every seat.
