The staff at Hotel Aloha Bed & Breakfast in Managua, Nicaragua, seemed quite surprised last month when Kippen de Alba Chu, director of Iolani Palace, and his wife, Linda de Alba, of Hono­lulu, introduced themselves. It was “as if we were the first people from Hawaii they had ever met,” said Chu. “At least they were familiar with the term ‘aloha’ and its meaning as a greeting.”
