The Search for Signs of Hawaiian Life

For Sunday, June 29, 2014

Kalfreda Wataoka of Salt Lake found a spot to cool off in Lake Havasu City, Ariz., at a Hawaiian Shave Ice stand in the shadow of the famed London Bridge. The 1831 bridge, which formerly spanned the River Thames, was dismantled and transferred to Lake Havasu in 1967. “The masonry was assembled and the bridge was opened for use in 1971,” said Jeffrey Wataoka. Seeing the bridge was a treat, but “we’ll stick with the original shave ice from Hawaii,” he said.
