Scholastic Sing-Along Travel Kit

By Chicago Tribune / chicagotribune.com

POSTED:

» What it is: Bliss in a box for parents traveling in the car with little ones for hours. Two hourlong DVDs with classic tales narrated by Arlo Guthrie, the Bacon Brothers, Cyndi Lauper and others; a 13-song CD with many of the same artists performing children's songs; and a booklet filled with mazes, matching games and coloring activities. Intended for children 2 to 8.

» The good: Unlike a lot of kids' entertainment, these songs and stories are pleasant to share in a confined space. No frenetic pacing or obnoxious characters, and the songs are fun to sing as a family.

» The bad: Your kids will miss the scenery if they spend the whole ride staring at a screen or activity booklet. Then again, you'll enjoy the scenery if you don't spend the whole ride telling them to stop fighting and enjoy the scenery.

» Cost: $24.95.

» Where to get it: newkideo.com
