Coast Guard Station Honolulu getting new boat
U.S. Coast Guard Station Honolulu is getting a new piece of equipment.
A 45-foot “Response Boat Medium” is to be dedicated tomorrow at Base Support Unit Honolulu on Sand Island.
The RB-M has twin diesel water-jet engines that give it a top speed of around 45 mph and a range of about 55 miles. It has four special shock-absorbing seats to help its crew endure pounding seas.
The Coast Guard says the RB-M has an improved design, new ergonomics and enhanced safety features that allow crew members to perform different missions more effectively.
Officials say it will complement the station’s other two small boats, a 25-foot response boat and a 47-foot motor lifeboat.
