A wildfire burned a couple of hundred acres of brush between Kalaeloa and Ko Olina last night and came within a few hundred yards of townhomes at “The Fairways” complex in Ko Olina, Honolulu Fire Capt. Terry Seelig said today.

No one was injured and no homes were damaged, Seelig said.

Firefighters returned to the area today to extinguish hot spots and areas that were still smoldering.

The fire was reported at 9:45 p.m. in a hard-to-reach area full of gulches and ravines, Seelig said. Firefighters had the blaze contained by 5 a.m.

As the fire spread in several directions, Seelig said, crews worked to protect utility poles and a pumping station as the fire spread in several directions.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
