BOE accepting applications for superintendent’s job

The Board of Education today began accepting applications for the schools superintendent position.

Meanwhile, the board is also asking the public to take an online survey on what attributes they think a superintendent needs to have. Information on the job search and survey is available at www.hawaiiboe.net.

The website provides information on how to apply, a job description and a search timeline.

Applicants for the superintendent position should e-mail a cover letter, resume, and an application form that is available on the website to superintendent@notes.k12.hi.us by Aug. 9.

No applications will be accepted through regular mail or past the due date. Advertisements for the position will appear soon in daily and weekly newspapers throughout the state, as well as in national publications.

“The new superintendent will be leading our school system through a challenging yet exciting period as we continue to feel the impacts of budget cuts and prepare to implement promising reforms such as common core standards,” said BOE Chairman Garrett Toguchi.

The board will gather public input through the online survey and in focus groups that will be scheduled for later this month and in August.

The board expects to conduct interviews with potential candidates in September and hire a superintendent by mid-October.
