Cherry’s school blossoms

Cherry Blossom Cabaret members Violetta Beretta, left, and Morrigan Von Sin are the featured instructors this month at the Academy of Tease at The ARTS at Marks Garage.

Summer 2010 is turning out to be a busy one for the ladies of Cherry Blossom Cabaret.

The dance troupe — as well as CBC member Kitty Chow — celebrated birthdays last weekend at Mercury Bar in conjunction with the bar’s regular "Ska Foundation Night" and DJs Musical Ingredient Chef, JT, Selector Gadget and Kaz. After four years in existence, Chow and fellow dancers Miss Catwings, Violetta Beretta and Lola Love now perform regularly in Chinatown and elsewhere (more on that in a minute).

In addition to performances, a new partnership with The ARTS at Marks Garage resulted in the creation of CBC’s Academy of Tease – A HI-er Burlesque Learning Establishment. Starting Aug. 17, separate three-week sessions will cover "Burlesque Basics" (6 to 7 p.m.) and "Burlesque Fusion" (7 to 8 p.m.) with Beretta and Morrigan Von Sin, respectively. Upcoming months will feature classes taught by Catwings and Love.

Ladies interested in signing up are encouraged to do so in advance at www.cherryblossomcabaret.com; each series costs $36, or $60 for both, with a $15 drop-in price available for those who want to pay as they go.

If Chinatown — or taking a burlesque class — isn’t your thing, join the ladies at their new monthly party, "MenageA3," at Apartment3. Every third Saturday of the month will feature a different theme, starting with this month’s "Glitz & Glamour" that calls for an "old Hollywood feel."

The party starts at 9 p.m. with a $10 cover charge; the ladies of CBC and DJ Kitty Lee will be joined by a "vintage photo booth" provided by Firebird Photography. Call 955-9300 for VIP reservations …

PAULA FUGA is back on the rock for a brief visit before heading back to the mainland to join Jack Johnson’s summer tour.

"Being on the road is so much fun," she said Tuesday. "Your only responsibility is to make music.

"All the people who are part of Jack’s crew are just super positive people. It’s just good vibes all the way around."

One definite highlight, Fuga said, was performing on stage at Madison Square Garden alongside Johnson and his band.

"The whole time leading up to it, everyone was just tickled," she said. "Just to be in that place and knowing the history … it was just this amazing feeling."

Fuga was also happy to talk about her new, five-song EP, "Misery’s End," which she said had reached the No. 5 position on iTunes’ Reggae chart; she also mentioned an upcoming marriage could delay the release of her next full-length album.

"We’ve started the process of recording," she said. "But I’m getting married in May, so … I’m gonna be very focused on putting that together."

Catch Fuga live tonight at Tropics Cafe at 10 p.m. …

SWING THAT WAY: Fusion Waikiki celebrates 21 years tonight with help from the Gender Bender Lip Gloss Revue, Ms. Marilyn & The Boys and the Men of Fusion. The debauchery starts at 8 p.m. … Ka Restaurant and Lounge is the spot for "Taboo: The White Party" tonight starting at 9:30 p.m. with DJ Min-One on the decks. Call 227-7031 for bottle service … Teighlor Armani and DaParty.com will be at Blue Ocean Thai Restaurant tomorrow for "R-Mani’s: Summer Splash Boardshorts and Bikini Party," an 18-and-over event that starts at 9 p.m. Wear beachwear and save $5 off cover before 11 p.m. Free parking is available nearby at the Wet Okole Hawaii lot.
