Dean Wilson shoots third-round 71
Former Kaneohe resident Dean Wilson shot a third-round 71 today at the Turning Stone Resort Championship in Verona, New York.
It left the Castle High product tied for 41st at 6-under 210 as he dropped 27 spots on the leader board at this PGA Tour event played on the Atunyote Golf Club. Second-round leader Alex Cejka (67) is in at 15-under 201 to hold the 54-hole lead by two shots over Chris Couch (63—203) and three over Billy Mayfair (66—204).
After having a bogey-free round yesterday, Wilson carded three bogeys and four birdies today. The 40-year-old is playing in his third consecutive PGA event in hopes of regaining his tour card that he lost in 2009 after failing to finish among the top 125 money winners
Wilson entered this week’s event 99th on the FedEx Cup list and 105th on the money list with $664,030. He is not eligible to play in next week’s PGA Championship, but has a good shot at making the FedEX Cup playoffs and competing in the first of the big four closing tournaments.
