Lanikai wins state paddling by 1 point over Kailua

Lanikai edged Kailua by one place in the final race, giving it a 1-point win over its Windward Oahu rival for the Hawaiian Canoe Racing Association state championship today at Keehi Lagoon.

Lanikai and Kailua were deadlocked after 38 races when Lanikai’s crew finished fourth and Kailua’s fifth, five seconds later, in the Men’s 40 race to complete the regatta. Lanikai finished with 342 points to 341 for Kailua.

Hawaiian finished third overall with 307 points.
